are you participating in photo a day for february? i'm going for it. we'll see how long i last. i have the highest of expectations for myself, which can always be disappointing. however! i love using my iphone for just about anything and having an actual purpose in using my camera and/or instagram is fine by me.

for february 1st, the subject is view today. when i came downstairs this morning at the crack of dawn (that pip still enjoys her early mornings, ugh...mama doesn't), i began to open the blinds and saw this glorious sky. can you believe? it doesn't look real, does it? i assure you, it is. i wouldn't know how to create anything like that on my own, honestly. so, i immediately grabbed my phone and clicked away. this was my view from my front porch. and you know what they say about red skies in the morning? sailors' warning. beware. maybe we'll actually get some winter type weather. wouldn't that be weird?

i'm fairly certain i was born in the wrong decade...

on the wrong continent..

in the wrong class.

but, this is my lot.

can anyone get enough downton abbey?

i know i can't. i watch a snippet (at least) every day.

every. single. day.

i have to. i need to. i love it.

i discovered downton last year on netflix. just as it ended on masterpiece theater here in the states. oh downton, how you wooed me, your fabulous wardrobe, your unbelievable castle, your drama-drama-drama. i knew i was hooked when the opening scene involved the sinking of the titanic. you knew of my weakness for that fateful ship, didn't you? of course you did.

i watched all seven episodes in a matter of days. i was hooked. and then, i waited. waited and wondered. after several weeks, i came upon an article announcing downton abbey season 2! hurrah! and then the sadness came. january of 2012. but, it's march, 2011, i cried...how will i stand it? how will i wait? how did you not plan for a second season when finishing the first? (really? when it ends with lord grantham announcing the second world war? that would've been the end?) but, no, the response they received from viewers and critics was overwhelming. hello!?! they announced a second season would begin filming. happiness and complete sadness all at once. oh how to survive those next ten months without new downton?

and now, after several awards, downton is a huge hit. and why not? it's fabulous, i tell you, fabulous! even my hubs enjoys it. so much that he surprised me with the second season just weeks before christmas. squeeeee! we watched the entire second season in three evenings. we would've watched it straight through if we didn't have jobs and kids and school and other necessary evils. and let me tell you. it's fabulous. it gets better and better and better and better. and the christmas special! (a fabulous 90 minute special that aired on christmas day in britain)

*gasp*

you will not be disappointed. you will, however, be left wanting more.

downton abbey's third season will air in early fall in britain. i'm assuming that means another january premiere for us in the states. oh, the agony. patient, i am not. i'm hoping that julian fellowes' "titanic" will tide me over (coming this spring?) until i can be reunited with the crawley family once again.

a favorite line that i can't seem to get out of my head:

cousin violet is reminding the family at dinner about an outbreak of cholera at a party, in which nearly all the guests were dead by the end of the evening. lord grantham, in response says,

"thank you, mama, you've cheered us no end."

i know, i can't capture it, just trust me here.

(can maggie smith be more amazing? i ask you!)

so, off i go, for my daily dose of downton. if you haven't discovered downton abbey for yourself. do it. do it now. you will not be disappointed. if for nothing else but the killer wardrobe, it is well worth your viewing time.

i decided to take a much needed break from sewing after Pip was born.

this break has turned into a year long hiatus. while it was much needed, i've missed being a little creative for my leetle girls. i've made things here and there, but, mostly as an afterthought. i suppose i got a little burned out after sewing every. single. day. for 3 years. seriously. and while i have no intention of going back to that insanity (i've got other kinds of insanity to work on, thanks), i definitely enjoy listening to the whirrr of my machines while i create some cuteness.

the girls enjoy it too.

i've been mildly obsessed with checks lately. i've been on my own checked shirt crusade for sometime now. i've found several that i like, but, they're either too expensive (really, jcrew? $70?), or don't fit right, or aren't the right color...etc...etc...

so, i found this cute fabric and thought, well, if i can't find it for me, i can sure make it for my girls. especially Pip, she loves her some checks.

(not really, she couldn't care less, but, hey, it makes me feel better)

so, i made some very simple little peasant dresses this morning...

i thought they could both use a little pop of color, so, here's the fun felt rose i think looks smashing on just about anything.

truly, anything.

navy & white, which i adore. i wish i could've found it in the larger check like the black & white above. oh well. seriously love the simplicity of these dresses.

they're comfy too. and little Pip can scoot around to her heart's content. i think i'll pair them with her little jeggings (what is cuter than little jeggings on an 11 month old, i ask you?) and some of her uber cool boots.

she'll love it.

today was one of those days. those rare, glorious days where i finish what i start out to finish. the stars align, the heavens open, and the baby takes a nap. oh the glory of the nap! how do parents accomplish anything with children who refuse to nap? my heart goes out.

i've had two yards of fabulous faux fur staring at me for one month. one. whole. month. i've had plans for this lovely faux fur, yessirreee. but there it sat, next to my cutting table. staring. longingly. at. me. oh, and let me assure you, i've stared longing right back. all soft and furry like. then i hear a cry, or an argument, or a whine, or something breaking and *whoosh*, i'm forced back into reality. i am a mom. i have a gazillion children (okay, eight), and someone needs something. always.

today, however? today was my day. the sun was shining, the birds were singing (seriously, this weather is freaking me out), and the heavens were looking down upon my pleading face. i yearned for a fur vest (another fur vest, i ask you, can you have too many?), and dare i say, a fur cowl? oh please say i'll have enough fur left over...please?

here's another conundrum. fur is not fun to work with. faux fur that is, i have no experience with real fur, thank the heavens. eww. faux fur sheds like you would NOT believe. evidence below on my lovely pants, and that wasn't even the worst of it. {sneeze}

i threw caution to the wind. i put on my big girl pants (they're coral and they are SO cute), put my baby down for a nap, and went for it. i used a horrific pattern designed from the 80's (which i love, you know), but, it was the most simple, basic style of vest i was going for. i hate patterns, have i mentioned. another rant, another day. cut that bad boy out, and went for it. i used a big old industrial needle and some insane upholstery thread (i'd rather call it dental floss). and voila, it worked.

happy dance.

and the best part? i had enough for a lovely cowl left over. squeeeee. oh the joy.

my inspiration comes from my favorite blogger, nat. she's been wearing this uh-mazing faux fur cowl for a couple of months and my heart started beating a little faster every time i saw it. i thought to myself, self, you can sew, why don't you try whipping one of those bad boys up all by yourself? and this is the problem right here. those of us that can (or think we can) often say something like this to ourselves. know what happens? we don't. we can, sure, but, do we? no. lame. however, this fur cowl that nat wears was burned in my brain. i had to have it. so, voila, my version of nat's fur cowl.

not bad, i dare say. i'm very happy with it, especially since it was a bonus to my vest. yay.

now, fur is not my only love of the moment. oh no. i'm afraid i've fallen very hard for colored denim. i'm pretty sure i want a pair in every color. i've got blue, red, coral and lavender. me. seriously. i'm very proud of myself for breaking out of my gray/black/brown uniform and welcomed color. oh color, how have i lived without you for so long? i welcome you.

these are the lovely coral jeans. forever 21 for $16, thank you very much. i love me a bargain, yes i do. and the booties, i love the booties. comfort, people. major amounts of comfort. fabulous for hauling the herd of children here and there.

while i was on the faux fur bit, i found this lovely fur today at hob lob. inspired again, by nat, check out her cuteness here. love. that. so, in my true style, i copied. the pants took a beating, however.

this was after the scarf. i didn't take a picture after the vest and cowl. nasty. i was covered, i will tell you that. i had to vacuum myself to get it off. vacuum myself. weird. but, it worked and the outfit was saved. hurrah.

so, to a successful day, i salute you! cheers to projects being started and finished on the same day. cheers to babies napping and kids being at school. now, to figure out dinner...

i need help. heavens to betsy i am in love with pinterest. it took me a while to get on board and i can'thelp but ask myself, "why?"... why would i choose to deprive myself of such creative goodness for such a long time? it is so unlike me to deprive myself of anything good, i tell you what. but, here we are.

i adore the category of "women's apparel". oh for the love. many of my favorite pins are from polyvore, yet another delectable website created for those of us who want to be fashionistas but need a little guidance. or a lot. either way, you can create your own ensembles with thousands of items to choose from. it's a virtual closet of happiness, i tell you! makes my heart warm just thinking about it.

i've had a minor (okay, major) love of clothes since i can remember. which, for me, goes way back to the 80's. i always had a closet busting full of clothes. always. no matter if i was in high school or a poor college student. clothing somehow always managed to make it's way into my closet.

*sigh*

a full closet makes me all fuzzy inside. now, why is it then, that i always end up wearing the same thing? oh the unfairness of it all. enter pinterest. oh, pinterest, you sly fox, you. i can easily browse your delicious pins through my (other obsession) iphone and voila, outfit inspiration. of course, there are about a kajillion other items to inspire me as well, whether it be food, crafts, funny funnies (some are not censored, so, be advised...) and pretty much anything and everything else you could possibly hope to find. need to learn how to restore a thrift store dresser? done. want to make your own version of "febreeze"? done. want to take an old sweatshirt of your husbands and make it new & fabulous for yourself? done. twice. seriously, this place is heaven. my best choice for a true time sucker.

i've barely mentioned the food. there is far too much food on pinterest. i wouldn't recommend browsing on an empty stomach. you'll thank me for this. i've made some serious yumminess from pinterest recipes (i have a board devoted only to food, entitled, precisely, "yum").

already on board? of course you are. you are way more ahead of the trend than i am.

In case you were wondering...

Our little Peanut came early...

Five weeks and one day early, to be exact!

It's been pretty crazy since she got here,

but, dang...

We sure love that little girl!

She's spending some quality time in the NICU...

she's doing GREAT!

We are so in love!

Her delivery was fabulous!

However, the two unexpected, emergency surgeries

(one before and one after)

threw me for a loop, and left me rather

Vampire-ish

(I lost a LOT of blood, I'm seriously the color of a sheet!)...

as well as horrifically tired and shaky.

I'm on all kinds of meds.

It's a beautiful thing.

Ahh, but look at that little beauty...

She is definitely worth it!

We're very anxious to bring her cuteness home!

As are her siblings.

Her big sister, 3 1/2, had given up on her existence.

We've been talking about "baby sister" for several months now,

and we proved that she was, in fact, not in mommy's tummy anymore...

However, Saylor couldn't see her little sister anywhere...

Last night we were able to show all the kids that the baby did, in fact, exist,

by showing her off through the NICU window!

Many happy cheers were to be heard throughout the hospital,

which may or may NOT have thrilled the staff.

Ooooops.

Just when I was getting used to writing the date...

Now I've got to start over.

Holidays are over...decorations are gone...goodies have all been eaten :(

Yep, it's January!

You may or may not know that I'm on bedrest.

Still.

Going on 8 weeks now. My poor husband. He's been Mom AND Dad for two months. Needless to say, he's exhausted! The kids have been fabulous helpers, don't get me wrong, but, the hubs has definitely been working OVERTIME.

Yep, I'm lucky!

So, being on bedrest, I've been going a little crazy.

But, a few weeks ago, I got the okay to get back into sewing.

Limited time, but, hey, I'll take anything!

So! I've been working on stuff for out little Peanut!

Why is it funner to make stuff for little teenies?

This is the first quilt I've made in about 10 years!

I went a little quilt crazy and kind of burned myself out (apparently)...

This one was pretty fun.

I just winged the pattern (have I mentioned that I'm not a fan of "patterns"?)...

I like the random.

Clearly I'm a fan of pink & brown too.

Here's the whole quilt...the backing is pink chenille.

Yum.

Hey look, more pink & brown!

Okay, so, this is THEEE most heavenly soft minky fabrics EVER!

The pink & brown paisley is to die for yummy, and the reverse is the softest, furriest,

yummiest minky EVER.

I want one for me.

Seriously.

I also made a little "lovey" size blanket and a burp cloth with the left over fabric.

Black & white damask will always be a favorite of mine.

And this goodness is flannel-cozy!

Same yummy pink fuzzy minky on the reverse.

And that's a super cute lil bees snuggly sack with pink rick rack trim.

Cute little black headband and pink flower to top it off :)

I made another cute lil black apple doll with some more flannel

(still working on her face).

So, while I'm still going slightly crazy (or crazier as the case may be) being on bedrest, I have been able to get my creative juices flowing....YAY!

I'll probably be on bedrest another 8 or 9 weeks (GULP!), so,

here's to staying sane!

4. How do you make the holidays special without spending any money? We spend lots of time with family, which doesn't cost a dime :) And it's a favorite of ours! We love to go look at lights, make goodies, watch Christmas movies...nothing spectacular, but, fabulous traditions to us!

It's been a whirlwind at our house the past 48 hours.

I found out I needed surgery to keep our little Peanut safe & growing in my tummy.

I got the news around 10:30. Surgery was scheduled the next day at 8:30.

Yeeks.

Not a lot of time to prepare.

But, I'm so very lucky to have a husband who is always prepared.

I'm surrounded by children who don't even need to be asked to help.

I have friends and family who offer anything & everything.

Lucky, right?

Happy to report that surgery went well.

Things look good so far.

Which is so comforting because we are already so in love with our little Peanut.

We just need her to "cook" a little longer.

A lot longer, really.

Today is Thanksgiving.

I was over at Tater Tots & Jello and found the cutest thing!

S'MORES IN A JAR!

HOW freaking cute is this?

Seriously, do you not love the ghost peeps?

LOVE!

And pretty easy!

Check it out:

Halloween Smores In A Jar

Ingredients:

1 quart mason jar

1 sleeve graham crackers

1 package holiday marshmallow peeps

one bag of holiday M&Ms candies

1/3 cup of brown sugar

Directions:

1. Crush 1 sleeve graham crackers to crumbs.

2. Layer 2/3 of the graham cracker crumbs in a 1 qt jar. Pack down the crumbs a bit.

3. Arrange 8 to 12 marshmallow holiday peeps standing up, facing out around the inside of the jar. Press them up against the glass, but don't squash them.

4. Carefully spoon remaining cracker crumbs in the center of the jar to support the peeps, pressing down to keep it snug.

5. On top of this pour 1-1/4 cup M&M's in holiday colors.

7. Spoon 1/3 cup brown sugar into center of M&M's, gently pressing with a spoon. If you have any room left over, fill the jar to the top with M&Ms.

Cooking directions:

1. Empty the jar contents into a bowl.

Snip the peeps into bits with kitchen shears or cut up with a knife.

Return the peep bits to the mixture. Mix well.

2. Melt 1/2 cup butter; add 1 teaspoon vanilla. Pour this over the dry ingredients, mixing well. Pat into a greased 8" or 9" square pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes. Cool and cut into bars.

I found this little gem of a recipe over at

Southern Plate!

Can you say

YUM?

She calls it APPLE DOOZIE (Dessert Pizza)...

I call it heaven.

It's got apples in it so I'm calling it healthy.

Don't try and stop me.

And it's got a Fall feel to it right?

Apples.

K, so, here's the recipe:

Apple Doozie

1 pizza crust
1 can apple pie filling*
1/2 cup quick oats
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 c flour
1/2 stick margarine (1/4 of a cup)
1 tablespoon cinnamon

Place pizza crust on baking sheet and preheat oven to 350. Open pie filling and dice it up a bit while it is inside the can. Spread over pizza crust.

In small bowl, place flour, oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir to combine. Cut margarine into slices and place in bowl. Using a long tined fork, cut margarine into mixture until crumbly. Sprinkle over top of pie filling in pizza and bake at 350 for twenty five minutes, or until lightly golden. Top with glaze, below.

Glaze:

1 cup Confectioner’s sugar
2 Tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanila

Place all in small bowl, stir until smooth. Can add a smidge more milk if mixture is too thick, more sugar if it is too thin. Drizzle over Apple Pizza with spoon.

*To use fresh apples. Peel and chop two to three cups apples. Saute’ in two tablespoons butter until tender. Add a few tablespoons sugar if you like but keep them a bit tart because the topping adds a lot of sweetness. Continue with recipe.

It's my favorite time of year!

FALL!

Living here, we really get to enjoy

Fall...

It's awesome.

I missed it!

I lived in South Florida for a few years and

there were lovely beaches,

MICKEY MOUSE,

LOTS of humidity...

BUT!

No fall :(

No changing leaves.

No change in weather.

It felt like summer..

Every.

Single.

Day.

Some days it rained more than others.

But, that's about it!

Being back in Utah?

My hubs loves Fall too!

We chose to get married in the Fall because we love it so much!

Last week I got a big order.

Huge.

45 dresses!

*gulp*

How wonderful and awesome is that?

I have visions of little Texas darlings wearing lil bugs 'n' bees...

makes me happy :)

I finished 30 of those 45 dresses this week.

15 to go!

I'm pretty speedy.

In celebrating the completion of 30 cute lil dresses,

I thought I'd make something for me.

Just for me.

All mine.

(I am allowed to make things just for myself, you know...).

Anywho, I made myself a cute little twirl skirt from

lil blue boo...

I love that I can make one for my 3 year old...

and for me! YAY!

I had some super cute black & white stripe fabric on hand

and whipped one up, in about 30 minutes

(including cutting!!)...

I said I was speedy!

It's a great pattern, easy to follow, easy to use

(my favorite, you print it & cut it out, SO! You can cut

several different sizes on your own paper, lovely!),

GREAT results!

We'll be celebrating Pioneer Day this weekend.

Gotta love Utah.

summer, hugs and a clean house...

So, as a mom, I often wonder,

"Does anyone (as in one of my children) really get why I ______ (fill in the blank)?"...

Here's the thing.

I'm kind of a clean/neat freak.

I'm not apologizing either.

I was raised by a neat freak, and though I didn't live with my dad, his neat freak genes passed right down onto me (along with his height and his nose...thanks, dad)...

Therefore, being the neat freak I am, my children have some pretty high standards of clean to live up to. Is this bad?

I don't think so. But, I'm the neat freak here, so, of course I'd say No.

It's important to me that my children know how to do dishes, wash their clothes, clean a bathroom, etc.

I swear their spouses will LOVE me someday.

So, last night, my 12 year old son (now, let me offer a bit of insight on this boy...I have to check that he's breathing sometimes because he's so laid back...I also have to ask him at least three times before he'll usually get whatever it is I'm asking him to do "right"...he's come a long way, but, sheesh, three times?)...

Anyway, back to my son...

So, as you may or may not know, six of our seven children spend every other weekend at their other parent's homes...well, this last weekend was one of those weekends.

When four of those six children came home last night, I was greeted with hugs and smiles. I returned those hugs and smiles (and a huge sigh of relief, let's face it!)...I also told them how happy I was they were home!

So, 12 year old son comes up to me and gives me the BIGGEST hug ever. BIGGEST. HUG. EVER.

He's 12. I cherish eye contact, but, a hug? a BIG HUG? Wow.

So, at the end of our embrace, he looks at me and says to me:

"Mom, I am so glad our house is so clean!"

To which I smile, and to myself I say,

"YESSSSSS!"

The mamma of mine tested a pattern from youcanmakethis.com, and it's seriously my favorite thing ever. (Besides goats sitting on dog houses) You would not believe how cute it looks on little girls. (I love the face she's making, it's so teenage girl, only it's cute because she's tiny and innocent.)

I wish I could rock

huge bows like she does.

Sometimes she's totally peaceful and angelic.

Sometimes she beats me with a toy gun.

Sometimes she acts like a bird.

Love the shorts. She keeps asking to put food in her pockets.

See? It's like a jumper/romper type thing. I want one. Seriously man.

I can't get enough of that face.

So rad.

I would jump for joy, except I would hit my knees on this desk

that I am currently typing on.

The grass in my backyard just hasn't been mowed in a while.

Not kidding.

So, basically the hot new thing my mumsy has added are the straps.

Normally they're just ribbon, but it's been snazzified with coordinating fabric.

Dig it.

As if it were a garden.

This one is my absolute favorite.

Summer officially starts at our house today!

*gulp*

That means LOTS of kids...

Lots.

We have 7 of our own.

And these 7 have friends.

Oh imagine the chaos.

How do I prepare myself, you ask?

Two words.

Whiskey.

Nah. Just kidding.

I prefer vodka.

Okay, enough.

While I shake violently at the thought of being surrounded

by 7 little people...well, 6, my 14 year old has surpassed my own

5 feet 8 or 9 inches... I have to marvel at the fact that

1. they're mine...all mine

2. they survived another year in school

3. they survived another year at home

4. they're mine

You may not know but we are a "blended" family.

Still not sure how I feel about that term, blended.

I had a few kids, my husband had a couple kids

we got together and had a kid...

simple, right?

Hardly.

Worth it?

ABSO-freaking-LUTELY!

While I may not have "carried" all 7 of our children

(only 5 were baked in my oven),

I still consider them ALL. MINE.

We've had our challenges, things you'd probably never think of...

(you'd be amazed, I sure was, and I myself have a step-sister & step-brother)

Shocking.

But over all, it's absolutely UH-mazing being with these amazing little

(except the really tall daughter of mine)

people.

They're funny, and not just looking, let me tell you.

They're smart, and they truly are cuter than cute.

They keep me sane, when they aren't driving me insane...

Sure love 'em.

So, my moms been stressing on how to store her ribbon.

You see why? She almost has as much ribbon as she has kids. And the sad thing is, she uses it all. We've tried everything on attempting to organize it. (Even tinker toys!) So, what I'm asking you, blogging world, is how do you organize this without spending money, time, or energy?. (Just kidding about the time and energy part.) I want D.I.Y. people. None of this money spending nonsense. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE comment with suggestions.

On another note, school is ending soon! And my bestest friend in the whole wide world (kaileymonet.blogspot.com) might not be coming to my school next year!!! :(:(:(:(:( Mehhhh! I will miss her so stinking badly! She's the greatest friend I've ever had, and she's so darn sweet! (Sorry for my whiny rampage. My teenage instincts take over sometimes.) But, today I turned in my 9 essays for english, and last night I learned a lot about Coco Chanel. (I did a "Person I most admire" essay on her.) Who, by the way, totally had a little relationship with a German officer in World War Two! GASP! So she went to Switzerland then came back when she was seventy (Thank the heavens above!) and totally brought Chanel back to life.
Just thought you should know.

I had the pleasure of being part of the Health & Pampering Show last Friday.

This was a little "boutique" type gathering in preparation for the

Susan G. Komen

Race for the Cure

which took place in SLC last Saturday.

Wow.

There are so many amazing women out there.

Survivors.

Women in treatment.

Supporters.

Volunteers.

I was truly in awe.

There were so many of them.

And so much hope.

Everywhere.

It was amazing.

I saw so many YOUNG ladies holding their YOUNG children's hands.

I saw older ladies holding their husband's hands.

I saw every age of lady...surrounded by loved ones and friends.

Wow.

May we all be so lucky to be healthy.

And when life changes for us, may we be surrounded by those we love, and who love us.

I hope you all had a fabulous Mother's Day.

Have I mentioned I really need a new camera?

yeesh.

So, here she is!

My version of Murphy's Layered Skirt

Ruffles and Stuff!

Love?

You love my big mannequin too, right?

We call her "Big Mama".

She works.

I really love the jersey waist, super comfy!

And I love that I used an old t-shirt.

Awesome.

The cool thing about this skirt is you really don't use a lot of fabric.

I was able to use 1/4 yard of each fabric.

Not bad for a grown up skirt.

I plan on making more because this is just way too cute & Spring-y.

The one thing different I will do is the underskirt...

Disney recommended using jersey, which I did, and I have to say

YUCK.

ONLY because jersey stretches, and when you're trying to attach ruffles

to stretchy fabric, NOT so fun.

I'm planning on using cotton fabric for the underskirt next time,

but, that's just me.

I'm sure there are easier ways to ruffle & attach them to jersey,

I just haven't found them yet!

I'm still patting myself on the back for making something for me

WITH ruffles!

Who knew it would be so much fun?

I read this lovely post over on

CJane today.

Do you read Cjane?

Do you love her?

I do.

She's got some serious sarcasm that I truly admire in a person.

And she's honest.

Well, this week she's off having a baby (I hope she is, she's a few days overdue, bless her heart!)

and she's asked some of the men in her life to post for her.

Today her brother in law, MD (he's called), posted about adoption.

I cried.

It's a great post.

This touched me especially,

" I want to make it clear that I am not an advocate of the concept of faith as a “vending machine”. Yes, we can pray and be faithful, but just because we punch E6 on the keypad doesn’t mean we are getting the Snickers bar that we were dying to have. I guess what I am getting at is that just because WE know what we want, and WE feel we deserve it for whatever reason, it doesn’t always shake out the way we plan. That said, sometimes God finds ways to humble and surprise us."

See, here's the problem with me.

I have zero patience.

None.

Lots of faith, but, no patience.

Doesn't really work that way, does it? Must be the problem!

Have I told you I am married to THE most amazing man?

He takes care of me and our children like you wouldn't believe. We are a blended family. We have lots of kids. He takes care of children he really shouldn't have to. He feeds them, clothes them and shelters them. He's given up vacations...golf...free time...spending money...ANY & ALL of his money...pretty much everything in order to take care of us. He stresses, he worries, he works hard. For us. He doesn't have to, but he does. I wish my children could grasp all that he does for them. I hope they will.

How does all of that tie in with my lack of patience?

Well, it's been a struggle for us the past two years.

I won't go into details, but, my sweet husband has kept me afloat.

He's lifted me, cheered me, loved me when I thought I was losing my faith.

I want everything great NOW.

Today.

This minute.

Doesn't always work that way.

And it shouldn't.

We should learn to be patient.

Learn that WE don't always know what's best for us.

WE know what WE want, sure, but WE don't always see the big picture.

I'm a lucky girl.

I've been pretty spoiled most of my life.

I've had it easy.

Even when I think it's rough, in retrospect, it's been pretty easy.

So, along with my sweet husband who has helped me and guided me, this lovely little post is also a reminder to me.

God knows. He knows what we need, even and especially when we don't.

Oh and I am so lucky.

And so blessed.

So, bring it on.

I can handle it.

I've got the patience

and I've got the faith.

I've also got THE MOST amazing husband, and THE MOST phenomenal children on the planet to help me along the way.

"Can I make that for less than $6?",

because, you know...

I am in Utah.

And we Utahns are known for that kind of stuff.

(If you aren't a Utahn, you may not know of which I speak).

We tend to make it ourselves here.

Or we copy.

Well.

Very well.

We're crafty.

I take pride in that.

Crafty-ness.

I've lived in non-crafty places.

It's different.

I'm kind of a novelty because I craft.

But not here.

Not in Utah.

No, in Utah, we all craft.

Okay, not all, but, A LOT of us.

It's fun.

I love getting new ideas and inspiration.

I want it.

I could make it, sure.

Corn starch...I thank you.

Who knew the wonders of corn starch?

Not me.

Clearly.

I've read a lot about "dry shampoos" the past few months...

(I love the magazine "Hair" from the UK, we get it at the library)

and for the life of me, couldn't find any anywhere?

Oh, but guess what?

Dry shampoo is pretty much all corn starch.

Corn starch.

Dry shampoos cost anywhere from $8.99 up to $20.00, if you can find it.

Guess how much corn starch costs?

I got a huge tub at Wally's for $1.47.

HELLLLLOOOOOO!

So, I finally tried it this morning on my unwashed hair.

See, my cutest hairdresser, Danielle,

tells me everytime I get my hair done

to only wash it EVERY OTHER DAY.

ONLY!

Ugh.

I hate greasy, grimy feeling hair.

So, often times (sorry, Danielle), I wash it everyday.

It dries out.

Of course it does.

I also blow dry and flat iron every day.

Bad.

Very bad.

There are days when I avoid the shampoo.

But I always feel grimy.

Well, my hair feels grimy.

I do shower everyday

(honestly, I do. Even with 7 children, I shower EVERYday!)!

Anywho.

To make a really short story long,

here's the deal.

Corn starch rocks.

I got some on my fingers,

brushed it through my hair,

shook out the excess

and voila!

No more grease, no more grime.

Just lovely, looked- like -I -washed -my -hair -today hair.

Lovely.

I am a happy girl.

Not only have I saved my hair, and a lecture from Danielle....

I have also saved about 20 minutes every other morning.
